The Photonic Probe Raise Ore Grades by Reducing Dilution

"The GDD Photonic Probe:
An innovative tool to raise ore grades by reducing dilution.
"

The photonic probe is able to define the limits of different mineralizations and to establish a demarcation between ore and waste.

By compiling data, one can then determine the shape of the orebody. To know where the ore is allows a better management of the resources: you know where to dynamite and extract the ore.

The new photonic probe will make the reduction of dilution possible by probing blast holes.

In the field tests, we were able to identify ore types such as:

  • Sphalerite
  • Chalcopyrite
  • Pyrite
  • Quartz

The Photonic Probe works in dry or humid blast holes:

  • Up holes
  • Break through down holes
  • Not in holes filled with water

Benefits

  • Increased ore grades and tonnage. By blasting only the portion of the holes that contains ore, mines will save on transportation, crushing, milling, etc.

  • Reduced dilution by leaving the waste in place.

  • Higher profitability and extended mine life. By reducing dilution and by recovering pockets of ore that would have been left in the walls of a stope, the mill produces more concentrate with the same equipment.

  • By plotting the profiles of the photonic probe in blast holes, the exact shape of the orebody, within the waste and uneconomic low-grade ore, can be outlined.
